Lion John Chapman MJF
Maidenhead Lions Club

Lion John Chapman MJFLion John Chapman MJF: 25.10.1933 – 29.07.2026

John joined the Lions Club of Maidenhead in 2000, when he was 66 years old. He was one of the 17 new Lions resulting from our most successful recruitment campaign ever.

John Chapman was an enthusiastic Club member who attended Business Meetings regularly and participated in most activities. He was among the first to volunteer and support ideas & events.

He was part of small group who created and maintained a Gardening Club for a local Infants School. Being a grandfather helped as some children had no men in their family environment. The Gardening club sadly did not survive Covid.

John was our Club Treasurer and a Trustee from 2009 to 2013. A Quote from John: “I am happy to be in the Boiler Room, but I don’t want to be on the Bridge” (courtesy of Don)

After 25 years’ service he was awarded a Melvin Jones Fellowship in 2025.

John was married to Shirley, who although she never became a Lion, nevertheless, was well known to us all as she helped at many fundraising activities including helping to run the cake stall at our annual Duck Derby and attended Club social events with John. Sadly, Shirley passed away in July 2017.

A few years ago, John had to move into residential care in Cookham. He remained a Club Member as a Privileged Lion and enjoyed visits from various Lion chums, always showing great interest in what was happening at the Club. He attended the 52nd Charter lunch in 2025 to receive his Melvin Jones Fellowship. John was a true gentleman and will be missed by all.

Gordon Edmonds
Fleet Lions Club

Fleet Lions regret to announce the passing to higher service of former Lion Gordon Edmonds.

Gordon was president in 1992/93 and again in 2004/05 having held numerous positions over his many years serving the people of Fleet.

Gordon created our monthly internal newsletter and called it "The Rabbit". It was edited by PDG Roger Munday when Gordon left the club in 2005 and is now edited by Lion Tom Sayers and partner Juliet Browne. The Rabbit is a collection of all club and committee reports along with photos taken during the month, saving everyone having odds and ends of paperwork to shuffle.

Gordon's funeral service will be at Aldershot Crematorium on 7 August at 2pm, then afterwards at the Fox and Hounds, Church Crookham. If you'd like to attend the pub, you please use our Contact form to confirm.

The family have requested no flowers but please make any donations to Lions Club of Fleet CIO (Referencing Gordon Edmonds).

Lion Alec Bradfield
Windsor Lions Club

Alec has been a member of Windsor Lions for 10 years, and had been involved with our club for several years prior to becoming a very valuable and enthusiastic Lion.
In his application for membership, he said his claim to fame was involvement with the Madame Tussauds Royalty and Empire exhibition which commemorated a Royal occasion, Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in 1897 within Windsor and Eton Central railway station.
Alec never held an office position within Lions. He was always been a dedicated supportive volunteer, and very active in community support work, both with Lions and with his local churches to bring people together to overcome loneliness.
Alec had been involved with endurance and marathon races to raise funds, particularly for the local Thames Hospice.
A remarkable Person.
