Another great project that was to be relaunched at Convention 'A Gift for Living'. We will get the dental surgery to the school in Sarajevo later in the year. Thanks to donations from DG Jarvis and clubs in 105D (yes I do mean 'D'). There is much to be done to help this community.

you make a very good point, it has been one of the highlights of this year so far, Chautari Lions (Swindon) is the first club we have chartered in this part of the world for many years, They are a great club full of enthusiastic individuals who will greatly enrich our district

Just a thought - perhaps we can promote the Brain Tumour Trust through our Club Facebook etc and encourage people to donate to them and perhaps wear a hat for their fund raising week and post photos?

good to hear from you, that's good that we have raised over £9,000, but i am sure as a district we can do more, we are always in the top 3 for donations to LCIF, it would be good to do the same for the Brain Tumour Research appeal, clubs with the online quizzes etc why don't you think of donating the monies raised to this great cause

The water bottles scheme isn’t running in Swindon yet, but we got it going in Banbury. People make a donation of 50p when they have a bottle of tap water in the restaurant. The club provided the labels to hang round the bottle necks (pictures available on the Banbury Lions website), along with information about what the club was doing with funds so the waiting staff were prepared for the conversation to have at the table. Banbury club raised £1000 from 1 restaurant in a year. I should point out they copied the idea from Chipping Norton club - where they got it from I have no idea.

Can I also add my congratulations to Tom and Juliet for getting this working, and apologise to Amy for the typo in my last message.

Perhaps we can have a big on line celebration (Zoom or similar)instead of the Convention evening? Obviously we will be dressed in our best bling outfits and Jarvis could do a speech and we can all have a toast!

It's certainly an unusual Convention this year! Well done to you & your team,especially to Linda Picton & David Firth for sorting out all the refunds, etc. and, of course, to Tom & Juliet for all their hard work.

Ebbo, a good question, from a Lions perspective i have not been able to attend many club charter events has they have had to be cancelled and that is a real shame as it the one time in a year that the club gets to celebrate the achievements and the members get a chance to wear all their bling, on a personal front i have missed just being able to wander down to the local for a pint and a chat

Hi Guv’nor and fellow Lions. Any and I hope that you are all keeping well. Question for Jarvis: whilst he was able to still travel the district, what club projects that he has seen could work for other/all clubs? Are there things that would be easy to replicate?

Tracy Sheppard Westbury Lion - Hi Tracy, for each camera a District, Zone or Club will need to fund raise for (each camera is £6,000 including VAT)

If Districts club together to buy cameras it will be down to the District Vision Screening Lead as to where these cameras will be kept.

Vital to point out that only Lions who have been trained by the MD Team should be doing any screening once the project rolls out

Regarding the question about what District are doing about the current situation - it is worth watching Mark Cooper's presentation on Fleet's Covid 19 IT Project page "Your Projects in 5 Minutes" on this Convention website

I think the suggestion of a District Project from PM Rob Holder is an excellent idea as it can keep the Clubs United and keep the Lions name in the Community

Hi Pauline, its good to hear that you guys are continuing the good work that you do, it was shame we couldn't meet up at your charter (due to the dreaded C word) lets hope we can meet up soon, send my regards to all at Ryde Lions

I suggested to our Club a few weeks ago when our island went into lockdown if maybe we should look at running a Poster competition similar to our Peace Poster with age groups and some prizes. The idea would be that the artwork would be photographed and posted onto our facebook page and the most number of likes would be the winner! The purpose was 2 fold - entertain children and keep our Club profile up with folk visiting our FB page. unfortunately, i was not aware when i made this suggestion of the Rainbow! However, has District given any thought on a Project that would engage the families during lockdown and keep our profiles high within our communities? Needless to say, i do not want this to have a negative effect of the PP. Thanks.

you say the nicest things, can i add that as one of newest members you have been a breath of fresh air, Tracey is our get anything from anywhere type of person, when we were in the mucky stuff (no curtain side trailer for the live music) prior to our Classic Car Show last year Tracey found one within 15 minutes whilst sat in the club meeting

Just want to say, thank you to everyone, it is at times like this we realise just what membership of Lions Clubs International stands for.

Firstly a BIG THANK YOU for the support I have received from your DG Jarvis, your District Cabinet and the clubs across SC.

I must also thank Lions Linda Picton & Peter Burnett for their guidance and mentoring on this project.

I hope that the slides and information in the online convention section has given you an update into how the project has been going.

Obviously at the moment we are in a holding pattern due to COVID19, but as soon as 'Normality' resumes within the NHS and Public Health we will be pushing the project forward.

Jarvis, may I congratulate Tom & Juliet for all the hard work they have put into getting this blog and the convention website up and running. To the Convention committee I am truly sorry we couldn't see what a great convention we would have had. well done.

I just wanted to say Jarvis job well done... It has been great working with you and keep it up despite these challenging times... Even doing this shows the Lions of 105SC that we always find a way and we can still Serve at this time... Just in a different way...

it has been encouraging to hear that many clubs have continued to have club meetings and elect their club officers with either Zoom meetings or tele conferencing, i stole the newsletter idea from Maidenhead Lions, we have just produced our first effort at Westbury, i think it is a great way to keep members engaged and informed, if our more senior members have not got access to computers then a written copy is printed and popped through the letter box

We had our first online meeting last Wednesday . It was great to see most of our members . We are also going to do a games night once a week.

In response to Rob Holders comment we are holding our first online Zoom meeting next Tuesday we had a trial run this week and it was very successful

Jarvis is there anything you wish you would have time to do but haven't been able to because of Coronavirus

Hi Sandra, thank you for your kind comments, it has been an interesting year for many reasons, some of my most pleasing moments have been watching people who are new to their roles (as you are) growing with the responsibility and getting on with the job in hand

We have had one zoom meeting and another planned for our social. Had more members at zoom than club meetings! Could be something to do with being at home. Minutes were circulated straight after the meeting so that those who were unable to attend (one member has hearing problems and so had to drop out of zoom) had a chance to see what had been proposed and voice their opinions.

In answer to Rob Holder's question. We are continuing our meetings by telephone and in fact we had 19 dial in on Thursday on the conference call. We have also started a weekly newsletter where we expect all our members to contribute so keeping the club lively. Hope that helps

I was part of the host commitee for Convention.
I just wanted to say I am so proud to be a lion, I have been badged up for a year now and I am learning all the time. It is the best thing I have ever done. This would have been my first convention. It will definately not be my last. Finally I would like to say thank you to Jarvis, firstly for being a part of Westbury Lions Club and inspiring me to be a better person and Lion.

Hi Responding To Lion Dave Rose, I think this year i have clocked up over 12,000 miles for Lions events this year so far

Hi Jarvis / All - I am just curious to know how other Clubs in our district are addressing the running of their Club ie Committee Meetings & General Meetings in order to keep the membership informed and active as much as they can. I am sure we are not alone in still receiving welfare cases? Thank you. Best.

Hi Jarvis - just wanted to say that I have enjoyed my role this year and was pleased that I was able to visit all clubs before this human crisis. Lions is such a great family to belong to. The clubs in our zone are coping well and I am staying in touch with them by email.
I hope that you and your family are keeping well and making the most of this enforced slowing down of life. May well meet at the next cabinet meeting if things improve. The virtual convention was interesting and a lot of work had obviously gone into it. Hopefully we can celebrate your year at the next convention alongside Steve. Take care.

There have been many highlights this year, but the stand out event was the Bob Cook Games run by Chippenham Lions, where over 200 people with learning difficulties get to compete and have fun, it really warmed the heart, watching these individuals who face difficult challenges every day with big beaming smiles when they collect their medals a truly superb experience
