11 April 2020 2:01pm PDG David Taylor GMS / CNRO

I think the incoming 2vdg, if he's lucky enough to be elected, should sort out the Blog as he finds it annoying

11 April 2020 2:00pm Dave Rose GMS

Thanks DG Jarvis for all your hard work shame you could not have your convention we will celebrate at a later date. You can buy me a drink

11 April 2020 2:00pm DG Jarvis Westbury Lions

Another great project that was to be relaunched at Convention 'A Gift for Living'. We will get the dental surgery to the school in Sarajevo later in the year. Thanks to donations from DG Jarvis and clubs in 105D (yes I do mean 'D'). There is much to be done to help this community.

11 April 2020 1:56pm Tom Sayers - Fleet

11 April 2020 1:51pm Stuart Young MD GST - Vision Screening Officer

As we approach the end of the two hours, I just wanted to say thank you for inviting me to join in with your Virtual Convention Q&A. I hope the presentation on the Convention page is useful, if you have any questions after this, please email me StuYoung@lionsclubs.co.uk Yours in Service Stu :)

11 April 2020 1:50pm Rob Holder - Guernsey Lions

Actually Mr DG - in all seriousness and before this wraps up, I would just like to also add my personal thanks to you and indeed Heather. You have been an awesome DG and I've appreciated your support/advise over one or two sherries that we have shared ....lol

11 April 2020 1:50pm DG Jarvis Westbury Lions

Hi Richard

you make a very good point, it has been one of the highlights of this year so far, Chautari Lions (Swindon) is the first club we have chartered in this part of the world for many years, They are a great club full of enthusiastic individuals who will greatly enrich our district

11 April 2020 1:50pm Tom Sayers - Fleet

Just having a sandwich but keeping an eye!
Great ideas Denise - we'll get cracking

11 April 2020 1:49pm Angie Fawcett Westbury

Still here....thanks for a great online chat

11 April 2020 1:48pm dave ebbo

Jarvis, on behalf of Reading Lions Thank You for all that you have done so far for our new District. Please give up the jokes or do they get better

11 April 2020 1:45pm DG Jarvis Westbury Lions

Pauline - don't worry there are more

I have been on a diet for over two weeks, all i have ate is coconuts and bananas, i haven't lost any weight but you want to see me climb trees

11 April 2020 1:43pm Rob Holder - Guernsey Lions

Sorry Jarvis I'm just munching on a toasted Hot X Bun ..... got a bit peckish when you mentioned Heathers baking!

11 April 2020 1:43pm Richard High - Swindon

Still here Jarvis Reading with interest. It’s a great shame we weren’t able to get the Chautari club shown off at convention but they are still 100% committed to service, so let’s give them a shout at our online event.

11 April 2020 1:42pm Pauline McCreanor Lions cklub of Ryde

I think it may have been your joke Jarvis !!

11 April 2020 1:42pm Stuart Young MD GST - Vision Screening Officer

Still with you :)

11 April 2020 1:42pm Linda Picton Hart Lions Club

Still here!

11 April 2020 1:41pm DG Jarvis Westbury Lions

Its gone quiet - has everyone gone to sleep ?

11 April 2020 1:37pm denise.stenner

If we can manage an on line cabinet meeting (sorry Tom) perhaps we can kick start the donation drive then - I'm sure its possible to take a shot of us all together wearing hats?? and post it?

11 April 2020 1:31pm Stuart Young MD GST - Vision Screening Officer

Denise Stenner - Thank you for your comments - we are planning a Lions Wear Your Hat week 22 - 28 June 2020 . . . . this would be an ideal opportunity to promote BTR & Lions plus raise funds towards our £1Million Target

11 April 2020 1:31pm DG Jarvis Westbury Lions

Denise

you a full of cracking ideas today, that's a very good suggestion, i'm going to mention that to our PR officer

11 April 2020 1:29pm DG Jarvis Westbury Lions

A man walks into the doctors and says my arm has been broken in many places - the doctors says "well don't visit those places then"

11 April 2020 1:28pm denise.stenner

Just a thought - perhaps we can promote the Brain Tumour Trust through our Club Facebook etc and encourage people to donate to them and perhaps wear a hat for their fund raising week and post photos?

11 April 2020 1:27pm DG Jarvis Westbury Lions

Tom

i expect it is a bit clunky, as the DG has a bit of a problem with his computer - it is the thing between the seat and the keyboard !!

11 April 2020 1:26pm Dave Rose GMS

Ha ha

11 April 2020 1:26pm DG Jarvis Westbury Lions

Mr Rose

are you casting doubt on my ability to find my way to a supermarket - you may have a point !

11 April 2020 1:25pm Tom Sayers - Fleet

Thanks everyone for your kind comments - this 'chat' is a bit clunky but gets the job done!
To answer Linda, it looks like 23 Lions are taking part.

11 April 2020 1:24pm Dave Rose GMS

I bet you had to set the sat nav . Jarvis

11 April 2020 1:22pm DG Jarvis Westbury Lions

I was sent out foraging, i snaffled the last bag from Waitrose

11 April 2020 1:20pm Angie Fawcett Westbury

Where did she get the flour from!!!!!!

11 April 2020 1:19pm DG Jarvis Westbury Lions

11 April 2020 1:19pm Rob Holder - Guernsey Lions

11 April 2020 1:16pm DG Jarvis Westbury Lions

Hi Denise

what a cracking idea, (poor Tom and Juliet must be groaning thinking of the additional work this would create) i bought a new dinner jacket and bow tie and hankie combination for the convention it would be lovely to give them an airing, I will discuss with the communications team and see if it is possible

11 April 2020 1:13pm Dave Rose GMS Lions

Fantastic Fran, I will be donating later and taking part.

11 April 2020 1:13pm Tracy Sheppard Westbury Lion

This is what I posted on FB

11 April 2020 1:13pm Tracy Sheppard Westbury Lion

Hi everybody, just a thought from a Westbury Lion! A lot of people have volunteered through this awful time for everybody. Westbury Lions do this all year round every year. If you love the feeling you get from helping people why don't you come and join us? We are a fantastic eclectic bunch of humans and we would love to have you join us when all this is over! Stay safe, much love to you all.
Tracy a very proud Westbury Lion 🦁

11 April 2020 1:13pm DG Jarvis Westbury Lions

Hi Barbara & George

it is good to hear from you both, i hope the newly formed Bournemouth & Christchurch Lions Club are doing well

11 April 2020 1:09pm DG Jarvis Westbury Lions

Hi Fran

good to hear from you, that's good that we have raised over £9,000, but i am sure as a district we can do more, we are always in the top 3 for donations to LCIF, it would be good to do the same for the Brain Tumour Research appeal, clubs with the online quizzes etc why don't you think of donating the monies raised to this great cause

11 April 2020 1:09pm Richard High - Swindon

Hi Jarvis

The water bottles scheme isn’t running in Swindon yet, but we got it going in Banbury. People make a donation of 50p when they have a bottle of tap water in the restaurant. The club provided the labels to hang round the bottle necks (pictures available on the Banbury Lions website), along with information about what the club was doing with funds so the waiting staff were prepared for the conversation to have at the table. Banbury club raised £1000 from 1 restaurant in a year. I should point out they copied the idea from Chipping Norton club - where they got it from I have no idea.

Can I also add my congratulations to Tom and Juliet for getting this working, and apologise to Amy for the typo in my last message.

11 April 2020 1:08pm PDG David Taylor GMS / CNRO

Just to confirm voting has closed
Final results received from Tom, will be confirmed later after scrutiny.

11 April 2020 1:08pm Angie Fawcett Westbury

Tracey Shepard from Westbury has just posted something on Facebook that could boost our membership.....Tracey...would you like to share?

11 April 2020 1:08pm Christine Fareham Lions

The video is brilliant Sue
Thank you for the link

11 April 2020 1:07pm Linda Picton Hart Lions Club

DG - lucky I am doing the numbers then! As definitely more than you and me.

11 April 2020 1:07pm denise.stenner

Perhaps we can have a big on line celebration (Zoom or similar)instead of the Convention evening? Obviously we will be dressed in our best bling outfits and Jarvis could do a speech and we can all have a toast!
A good way to get together

11 April 2020 1:06pm DAVE EBSWORTH

Richard how about doing a short video we could put up on 105sc website, just a thought DG

11 April 2020 1:06pm DG Jarvis Westbury Lions

Linda

i suppose we ought to ask our resident IT gurus Tom and Juliet - i can tell you there is at least two of us

11 April 2020 1:04pm DG Jarvis Westbury Lions

Hi Richard

good to hear from you mate, actually one of the best projects and easiest fund raisers came from you, this was the Restaurant sponsored water - you can explain it better than me, why don't you tell us about it

11 April 2020 1:03pm Barbara & George Jeremiah, B'mouth & C'church Club

Hi, DG Jarvis
It's certainly an unusual Convention this year! Well done to you & your team, especially to Linda Picton & David Firth for sorting out all the refunds, etc. and, of course, to Tom & Juliet for all their hard work.

11 April 2020 1:02pm DG Jarvis Westbury Lions

Ebbo, a good question, from a Lions perspective i have not been able to attend many club charter events has they have had to be cancelled and that is a real shame as it the one time in a year that the club gets to celebrate the achievements and the members get a chance to wear all their bling, on a personal front i have missed just being able to wander down to the local for a pint and a chat

11 April 2020 1:02pm Dave Rose GMS Lions

Thank you for the link to message in the bottle Stu

11 April 2020 1:00pm Stuart Young MD GST - Vision Screening Officer

Have you all seen the amazing Message in a Bottle video that District CW have produced?

Have a look at https://www.facebook.com/Lions105cw/

Please like and share

11 April 2020 12:58pm Linda Picton Hart Lions Club

Got to be a number question from me!
Do we know how many are on-line at the moment?

11 April 2020 12:56pm Richard High - Swindon

Hi Guv’nor and fellow Lions. Any and I hope that you are all keeping well. Question for Jarvis: whilst he was able to still travel the district, what club projects that he has seen could work for other/all clubs? Are there things that would be easy to replicate?

11 April 2020 12:56pm Stuart Young MD GST - Vision Screening Officer

Tracy Sheppard Westbury Lion - Hi Tracy, for each camera a District, Zone or Club will need to fund raise for (each camera is £6,000 including VAT)

If Districts club together to buy cameras it will be down to the District Vision Screening Lead as to where these cameras will be kept.

Vital to point out that only Lions who have been trained by the MD Team should be doing any screening once the project rolls out

Stu Y

11 April 2020 12:55pm DG Jarvis Westbury Lions

I agree with Christine's comments that Rob's suggestion for a district led project to keep fellow lions and their families involved and informed, i am due an online meeting next Wednesday, it will now be on the agenda

11 April 2020 12:55pm Dave Rose GMS Lions

Hi Angie Fawcett

Hope you are well

It Zoom video call . We are going to do bingo a quiz, still looking for more ideas.

11 April 2020 12:51pm DG Jarvis Westbury Lions

Hi CC Stewart

Nice of you to come and visit our district, i have really enjoyed my year, especially the council of governor meetings where it has been a joy to meet with fellow DG'S and find out how other districts carry out their duties, My fellow DG's are a lively bunch that Stewart has managed to control with aplomb

11 April 2020 12:51pm (On behalf of) Fran Stary - MD GST BTR Lead

Hi District 105SC - Just a quick note to say thank you for the donations you have made since the launch at MD Convention in 2019 (Swansea) a total of £9,322.77. Tomorrow night (Sunday 12th April) 7pm streaming live from Frans Facebook page is a Online Easter Quiz for all the family, raising money for Brain Tumour Research (Donation link on the quiz page) add her on facebook FRAN STARY and join us.

(Stu Y)

11 April 2020 12:51pm Tracy Sheppard Westbury Lion

Hi Stu and Jarvis.
Are Westbury Lions in line to get one of the sight camera's? And if so when will that be?

11 April 2020 12:50pm Tom Sayers - Fleet

Regarding the question about what District are doing about the current situation - it is worth watching Mark Cooper's presentation on Fleet's Covid 19 IT Project page "Your Projects in 5 Minutes" on this Convention website

11 April 2020 12:50pm Christine Asquith Fareham Lions

I think the suggestion of a District Project from PM Rob Holder is an excellent idea as it can keep the Clubs United and keep the Lions name in the Community

11 April 2020 12:46pm Angie Fawcett Westbury

Hi This is a question for Dave Rose. What virtual games have you found to be successful. Is this by phone Zoom/Skype?

11 April 2020 12:44pm Juliet Browne - Online Convention Team

Lion Stu's presentation can be seen on the Convention Website - there is a link on the front page

11 April 2020 12:44pm DG Jarvis Westbury Lions

Hi Pauline, its good to hear that you guys are continuing the good work that you do, it was shame we couldn't meet up at your charter (due to the dreaded C word) lets hope we can meet up soon, send my regards to all at Ryde Lions

11 April 2020 12:43pm Rob Holder - Guernsey Lions

I suggested to our Club a few weeks ago when our island went into lockdown if maybe we should look at running a Poster competition similar to our Peace Poster with age groups and some prizes. The idea would be that the artwork would be photographed and posted onto our facebook page and the most number of likes would be the winner! The purpose was 2 fold - entertain children and keep our Club profile up with folk visiting our FB page. unfortunately, i was not aware when i made this suggestion of the Rainbow! However, has District given any thought on a Project that would engage the families during lockdown and keep our profiles high within our communities? Needless to say, i do not want this to have a negative effect of the PP. Thanks.

11 April 2020 12:42pm DG Jarvis Westbury Lions

Hi Stu, thank you for your lovely comments, for those that don't know Stu Young is MD Officer for the Kid Sight UK eye Camera project, if any of you have any questions on this long awaited project Stu would be more than happy to answer them

11 April 2020 12:39pm DG Jarvis Westbury Lions

Hi Tracey

you say the nicest things, can i add that as one of newest members you have been a breath of fresh air, Tracey is our get anything from anywhere type of person, when we were in the mucky stuff (no curtain side trailer for the live music) prior to our Classic Car Show last year Tracey found one within 15 minutes whilst sat in the club meeting

11 April 2020 12:38pm Dave Rose GMS Lions

I would also personally like to thank Tom and Juliet for their hard work in setting this up. I would also like to know who is doing all the typing for Jarvis. Ha ha

11 April 2020 12:38pm Linda Picton Hart Lions Club

Afternoon everyone, joining late as Easter Bunny visited - safe distance of course - and just catching up on messages.
Just want to say, thank you to everyone, it is at times like this we realise just what membership of Lions Clubs International stands for.

11 April 2020 12:34pm Stuart Young MD GST - Vision Screening Officer

Hi Jarvis & Lions os 105SC

Firstly a BIG THANK YOU for the support I have received from your DG Jarvis, your District Cabinet and the clubs across SC.

I must also thank Lions Linda Picton & Peter Burnett for their guidance and mentoring on this project.

I hope that the slides and information in the online convention section has given you an update into how the project has been going.

Obviously at the moment we are in a holding pattern due to COVID19, but as soon as 'Normality' resumes within the NHS and Public Health we will be pushing the project forward.

Happy to answer any questions that you may have at this time?

Stu

11 April 2020 12:34pm Angie Fawcett Westbury

I would also personally like to thank Tom and Juliet for their hard work in setting this up
and on a personal note it has encouraged Rob and I to set up our own You Tube channel for the Us Two music. It's amazing what you can learn when you need to!

11 April 2020 12:34pm DG Jarvis Westbury Lions

Hi Anita

Once i have finished the Q&A, i will be verifying the voting with David Taylor, Tom Sayers and Roger Huntley and hopefully announcing the results a little after 2.30pm

11 April 2020 12:32pm Rob Holder - Guernsey

Hey Jarvis thanks for your response i have to say i like the newsletter idea and also Dave Rose's weekly games night, definitely food for thought. Thanks.

11 April 2020 12:31pm DG Jarvis Westbury Lions

Hi Ebbo

Good to see you could make it

11 April 2020 12:30pm DG Jarvis Westbury Lions

Hi Barrie, i agree wholeheartedly with your congratulations to both Tom and Juliet, they have worked tirelessly this last week to get things up and running, they both deserve the thanks of the district for their efforts

11 April 2020 12:28pm dave ebsworth

Jarvis, may I congratulate Tom & Juliet for all the hard work they have put into getting this blog and the convention website up and running. To the Convention committee I am truly sorry we couldn't see what a great convention we would have had. well done.

11 April 2020 12:28pm Stewart Sherman-Kahn Chair of Council

I just wanted to say Jarvis job well done... It has been great working with you and keep it up despite these challenging times... Even doing this shows the Lions of 105SC that we always find a way and we can still Serve at this time... Just in a different way...

11 April 2020 12:28pm DG Jarvis Westbury Lions

Hi Rob

it has been encouraging to hear that many clubs have continued to have club meetings and elect their club officers with either Zoom meetings or tele conferencing, i stole the newsletter idea from Maidenhead Lions, we have just produced our first effort at Westbury, i think it is a great way to keep members engaged and informed, if our more senior members have not got access to computers then a written copy is printed and popped through the letter box

11 April 2020 12:26pm Dave Rose GMS Lions

We had our first online meeting last Wednesday . It was great to see most of our members . We are also going to do a games night once a week.

11 April 2020 12:26pm Rob Holder - Guernsey

Hi Angie and Sandra thank you both for your feedback. I think we may have to take the dial in conference idea as some members do not have the capability of Zoom. Thanks again and stay safe. Rob.

11 April 2020 12:26pm Pauline McCreanor Lions cklub of Ryde

In response to Rob Holders comment we are holding our first online Zoom meeting next Tuesday we had a trial run this week and it was very successful

11 April 2020 12:23pm dave ebsworth

Jarvis is there anything you wish you would have time to do but haven't been able to because of Coronavirus

11 April 2020 12:23pm DG Jarvis Westbury Lions

Hi Sandra, thank you for your kind comments, it has been an interesting year for many reasons, some of my most pleasing moments have been watching people who are new to their roles (as you are) growing with the responsibility and getting on with the job in hand

11 April 2020 12:23pm Sandra Manktelow Petersfield

We have had one zoom meeting and another planned for our social. Had more members at zoom than club meetings! Could be something to do with being at home. Minutes were circulated straight after the meeting so that those who were unable to attend (one member has hearing problems and so had to drop out of zoom) had a chance to see what had been proposed and voice their opinions.

11 April 2020 12:23pm Angie Fawcett Westbury

In answer to Rob Holder's question. We are continuing our meetings by telephone and in fact we had 19 dial in on Thursday on the conference call. We have also started a weekly newsletter where we expect all our members to contribute so keeping the club lively. Hope that helps

11 April 2020 12:21pm Pauline McCreanor Lions cklub of Ryde

Hi Jarvis have just managed to get on

11 April 2020 12:20pm Tracy Sheppard Westbury Lion

Hi Everybody
I was part of the host commitee for Convention.
I just wanted to say I am so proud to be a lion, I have been badged up for a year now and I am learning all the time. It is the best thing I have ever done. This would have been my first convention. It will definately not be my last. Finally I would like to say thank you to Jarvis, firstly for being a part of Westbury Lions Club and inspiring me to be a better person and Lion.

11 April 2020 12:20pm Barrie Richardson Ringwood & Fordingbridge

Afternoon Jarvis. Congratulations to Tom on a great job in the circumstances

11 April 2020 12:20pm DG Jarvis Westbury Lions

Hi Responding To Lion Dave Rose, I think this year i have clocked up over 12,000 miles for Lions events this year so far

11 April 2020 12:20pm Rob Holder - Guernsey

Hi Jarvis / All - I am just curious to know how other Clubs in our district are addressing the running of their Club ie Committee Meetings & General Meetings in order to keep the membership informed and active as much as they can. I am sure we are not alone in still receiving welfare cases? Thank you. Best.

11 April 2020 12:19pm Sandra Manktelow Petersfield

Hi Jarvis - just wanted to say that I have enjoyed my role this year and was pleased that I was able to visit all clubs before this human crisis. Lions is such a great family to belong to. The clubs in our zone are coping well and I am staying in touch with them by email.
I hope that you and your family are keeping well and making the most of this enforced slowing down of life. May well meet at the next cabinet meeting if things improve. The virtual convention was interesting and a lot of work had obviously gone into it. Hopefully we can celebrate your year at the next convention alongside Steve. Take care.

11 April 2020 12:18pm DG Jarvis Westbury Lions

There have been many highlights this year, but the stand out event was the Bob Cook Games run by Chippenham Lions, where over 200 people with learning difficulties get to compete and have fun, it really warmed the heart, watching these individuals who face difficult challenges every day with big beaming smiles when they collect their medals a truly superb experience

11 April 2020 12:17pm Dave Rose GMS Lions

Good afternoon DG Jarvis, How many miles do you think you have travel visiting club etc in your year as DG

11 April 2020 12:17pm dave ebsworth

morning Jarvis just got on

11 April 2020 12:16pm Aniat Drago Westbury

Hi. What time will we get the results of the voting?

11 April 2020 12:14pm Angie Fawcett Westbury

Hi DG Jarvis...what has been the highlight of your year so far?

11 April 2020 11:59am Tom Sayers - Fleet

You're welcome!

11 April 2020 11:58am DG Jarvis Westbury Lions

thank you Tom, it looks like we are up and running !

11 April 2020 9:58am Tom Sayers - Fleet

Hi Jarvis - just a quick run through.
